My Favorite Martian

by Maxi on Nov.17, 2009, under Life, Loudmouth, Stuff, Tech

So I’m out in San Fran a couple years ago for JavaOne when I worked for Virtuas Open Source Solutions. ( lol – WTF? where did that site come from? ) I was Director of Creative and one of my rolls was to shoot video of the convention/conference and of our booth. Eventually the footage would make its way to the web site, and to DVD for potential clients. I’ve been doing video since 1983! The focus of the video is of course Virtuas, and it’s most excellent people as well as documenting JavaOne, but as a creative person you have to by instinct get artsy. That typically means you shoot B-roll. The meat of the video is Virtuas and JavaOne but the B-roll shots establish that we were in San Francisco at the time. So you get shots of the Moscone Center outside, the city and the cable cars/trollies, of Alcatraz and so on… For more babble, continue reading… “My Favorite Martian” »

The X-ray

by on Nov.27, 2007, under My Hip

OK. I had promised to pop up an X-ray of my hip – and here it is. Actually unless you have the trained eyes of a medical professional you can’t really tell that what you are looking at is a bad hip. But the best way to describe the issue is,… basically the knob on my femur ( leg bone ) where it connects to the pelvis ( hip ) should be nice and smooth not flat. The whole upper part of that knob is in effect,….dead. So here it is. My dead hip area x-ray…. YAY. Click on the image for a larger view.

Max's AVN hip x-ray

OK. There is another image that I am putting up here in the interest of medical debate and for my friends and family who are curious about my health. I have to be honest and say that even tho these are X-rays, my genitalia are semi-visible. I would hope we can handle this like adults and that you realize the seriousness and purpose of this web site to to be honest about my condition and my health. And sometimes there will be things here that are frankly, reveling. I’m putting this up in the hope that this and the rest of my site can help people cope with their condition and help my friends and family cope with me. I trust that you all understand that. PLEASE DO NOT LOOK IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED. Thank you for your understanding. Please click here for the other X-ray.

What’s going on here?

by on Oct.19, 2007, under Crohn's, Life, My Hip

If you are here, it’s because you are curious about what the hell is going on with me now. Basically, in addition to my Crohn’s Disease I now need Hip Replacement surgery. I want to apologize for not keeping everyone up to date on things, just understand that it’s been pretty hard to deal with – let along chat about. I figured this blog would be the best way to keep everyone informed and I’d feel better if you all knew. I’ll try to post my current situation, where I am with treatments and scheduled operations – all that pleasant stuff. I made this for my friends and family.
If you stumbled on to this site because you are out searching Hip Surgery or Crohn’s Disease for yourself or a loved one and you actually find something useful here, Swell!

Honestly, I did this so I wouldn’t have to explain my current state over and over. So far I’ve managed to sorta deal with the curve balls life has thrown me with this mess but the real drag is actually having to tell people I’m sick all the time. AND it’s not easy for people to hear that too. Especially the people who know me. It leaves most people searching for something to say…words of encouragement – pity – wacky treatments ( like my mother’s strange but TRUE treatment using bacteria from wild pigs in Africa ) – lol and that’s one of the most minor suggested “cures” I’ve heard. Hey, it’s all appreciated, and believe me I understand. Of course everyone wants to help and get me to a better place.

So,…I thought the best thing to do is draw on what I know about web stuff, to keep my brain/chops sharp. And while I’m at it letting you all know what’s up. Those of you who do know me, know to expect the candid blunt honesty I’m known for. There will be more times than not where we’ll cross into that whole “TMI” zone ( Too Much Information ). I’m wearing my heart, colon, and hip on my sleeve. It’s very messy.

So as you can see, things are just getting started. Hang in there, and I’ll be back with content soon. I want to post about how I got here to this point, and where things have gone and then catch you up – and keep things current.

Thanx for caring enough to drop by. I do appreciate it.
